We are all beings drawn into art, since we are little we start experiencing the world in a magical way. We further develop this vision and skills at school, then college and those who see this a path in life follow their passion through university or they found that it kind of developed itself.
Movement rules our lives even if we do not want to admit it, yes it does.. we move to do everything in our daily lives, and even when we sleep we move, our dreams move and we move with them. A dancer is the closest tool to experience such connection, and how movement influences us in any moment of our lives, when we walk, run, fall, stand on one feet or even when we stand still.
As dancers we feel challenged not only by our bodies but also by the external world that looks upon us with a magnifying glass, how thin, how tall, how big, how dark, how light we look like and whether it would be a certain criteria or a label. I generally find that where there is a varied body sizes and ethnicity on stage it tends to fill me up much more than a line up of perfect "cloned" bodies, do not get me wrong the body is beautiful and a strong body is admirable; yet i feel there is a mystical connection on those that sometimes look like "the odd one out" from the bunch that gets my attention, as if that person is fully aware that they stand out from the crowd, that they are being looked upon based on a label.
In comparison with the training back in the days, yes i must admit it was rigorous and used different ways of approaching dance conditioning, and i have seen and heard the disappointment on the old generation of dancers reflecting on the new generation, but i can say that the new generation is not only well trained but also very innovative, and in fact the new generation of choreographers are coming on very strong on the dance scene and performance world, applying technology and the best of the latest creative ideas not seen before in the past. There is still a lot of changes going on slowly in the dance world but i tend to think changes are good, and also freshens up the dance scene and the stages all around the world.
I guess that is the main point on this first article that i am writing, it shouldn't be about body types or skin colors, passion and technique overcome a perfect body.
